Foreign Direct Investment & Mitigation of Risk

Every professional employed in the Petroleum Industry will at some time be involved in Foreign Direct Investment. It is a fact that Petroleum exists where it occurs, and that the occurrences that interest us may be in foreign, and sometimes difficult jurisdictions.

It is essential that decision-makers are fully aware of the legal and fiscal mechanisms of these jurisdictions and can objectively evaluate the risks that exist when investing huge amounts of their shareholder’s funds. The decision-maker needs to be both bold and cautious. Attributes that can only come with experience and knowledge.

This 4-hour Lecture is designed for those working, or intending to work, in the upstream end of the Resources Industry who are, or will become directly or indirectly involved with the trans-national investment decision-making process. One of the most characteristic features of trans-boundary Resources Investment is the dramatic risk/reward relationship associated with exploration and production.

Therefore, it is essential that Resource Professionals understand the dynamics of these mitigable risks. The focus is on the means by which company management can identify, characterise, quantify and mitigate the risks associated with Foreign Direct Investment.
